Form Validation in CodeIgniter 1.7 →
I hate form validation. It’s messy, it’s difficult to configure and keep track of, it sullies otherwise clean code with ugly conditional blocks … I could go on. In version 1.7 (released last week), the CodeIgniter guys have found a pretty elegant execution. Well done guys.

Economics of POW Camp →
Fascinating article from Economica written in 1945 about how a simple bartering system amongst Prisoners of War effectively evolved into a mini-economy, with complex valuation processes and even a form of commodities trading evolving over time. Wonderful stuff. [via Kottke]

Simon Bird: Me.

Hyphens/Underscores being encoded by IIS?
Had this strange problem occur this morning and it turns out that it’s some kind of weird bug in IIS that’s triggered by not having a training slash on the URL.
/text-only will be rewritten by IIS to /text%2Donly/ but /text-only/ will not.
How weird.
