This weekend, I...
Became terribly middle-aged and bought soft furnishings from Muji (though there’s actually nothing new about that so it’s less ‘became’ and more ‘continued to be’).
Gorged on a delicious burger from Bodeans.
Bought a nice warm jumper for the winter from Self.
Celebrated a good friend’s birthday with some lovely, lovely rum: upstairs at The Oak.

Football's Frankenstein →
Arton Baleci is spending a year of gruelling physical training, undergoing Neuro Linguistic Programming, Feldenkrais re-programming of his body and all kinds of fun and games, with the aim of becoming a premiership footballer in a year.
Much as I love the concept and the possibility of it all, and while I don’t believe footballers like Ronaldo, Henry, Best and Brady are just born with...
Drinks I've enjoyed recently
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
St Peters Organic Ale, Best Bitter, Golden Ale, Ruby Red Ale
Bathams Best Bitter
Brakspear Bitter
Enville Ale
I heartily recommend Bathams and Enville, though you may need to be in the Black Country to get hold of them.
Tatler's Little Black Book is the most dispiriting... →
“She was clutching a miniature dog that looked like it’d been peeled; one of those scrawny upholstered canine skeleton-creatures with the facial tics of a tiny frightened bird.”

Cildo Meireles
Tate Modern, until 11 January 2009
I feel I must confess to knowing nothing of Cildo Meireles’ work prior to stumbling upon his exhibition (whilst departing the excellent Mark Rothko show on the same floor), so for the first time in aeons I found myself exploring an artist for the first time, close-up.
The work on display was nothing if not diverse. A splendid blend of sketches,...

Geldof and Bush: Diary From the Road →
A few things about W. you probably didn’t know…
Young people and territoriality in British cities →
An exploration of territorial behaviour among young people in disadvantaged areas of British cities. Fascinating.

This weekend, I...
Enjoyed a delicious Dark and Stormy cocktail and then a rather tasty (and huge) rump steak at Bistrotheque.
Made my regular pilgrimage to Ashburton Grove to see Arsenal beat Manchester United.
Celebrated the above with many drinks, culminating in a few tots of the greatest rum on Earth … Angostura 1824. Almost as sweet as beating United.
Completed my set of six tumblers from the amazing...

Rothko: The Late Series
Tate Modern, Bankside, SE1 9TG: 26 Sep 2008–1 Feb 2009
As a long-time Rothko nut (I love nothing more than relaxing in the temporarily displaced ‘Rothko room’ at the Tate) I’ve been looking forward to this exhibition for a long time. Primarily covering the artist’s later work and focusing (much to my delight) on work produced as part of a series, it’s a truly...
When Obama wins →
All these things will come to pass.
Astrometry →
Takes a photo of the night sky and automatically labels celestial objects based on their database of astronomical imagery. The geek in me loves this. The Astrophysicist in me wishes he’d spent the last five years creating it.

This weekend, I...
Had a pint at The Princess, in what was not even slightly a Halloween outfit.
Ate surprisingly stationary but very tasty Shaking Beef at Viet Hoa.
Indulged in a big breakfast at Bar Music Hall (Warning: link may contain more Flash than is absolutely necessary).
Played a solid 3-hour pool session at the Elbow Rooms, narrowly losing 10-9 to a fluke shot on the final black.
Ventured West to...
