Good movies are like fine wines...
I hate ratings. I hate trying to give a film a mark out of ten, or ‘stars’ out of five. Films are subtle, the difference between damn good and remarkable is often barely tangible, and appreciation of anything artistic is such a massively subjective thing that rating it seems utterly pointless.
At the same time, I’m a man, and — to generalise — men love rating stuff....

Best Picture
I love movies, and I love the Oscars, even though they almost always make me angry for one reason or another. One of the things I regularly get frustrated (if not angry) about is my inability to have a genuine conviction for my choice of Best Picture as I’ve rarely seen every film. Particularly after they expanded the nominations from 5 to 10.
