Four films I’m looking forward to…
I’ve been really bad at going to the cinema in the last couple of months. Been insanely busy. But that’s not stopped me getting excited about some upcoming films.
A Dangerous Analysis
David Cronenburg’s new film exploring the relationships between Sigmund Freud (Viggo Mortensen), Carl Jung (Michael Fassbender) and Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley). If he can get a good performance out of Ikea Knightley then well done David.
The Master
Paul Thomas Anderson’s exploration of a disgruntled WWII veteran who returns to America and starts a religion. Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix: the only way it can possibly fail is that (apparently) the script has been changed significantly so it doesn’t resemble L Ron Hubbard’s biography too much.
Gambit
In a remake of the 1966 Michael Caine/Shirley Maclaine movie, the Coen brothers execute a typical change of direction: swinging from A Serious Man and True Grit to what is sure to be an out and out farce. Colin Firth plays a Texas steer-roper who enlists Cameron Diaz’s help to con a valuable painting from wealthy collector Alan Rickman. Sure to be a hoot.
The Dark Knight Rises
You may have heard of this one. I’m a bit dubious about all the new villains, particularly Catwoman, but I trust Chris Nolan.
