This weekend, I…

  • Bade farewell to a work colleague with a few pints of Harveys Best Bitter at the Fox.
  • Followed up with a tasty pizza in the evening sun at Yard.
  • Eschewed further drinks (I had one or two too many of the aforementioned Harveys) for getting home and putting on a nice pot of Moroccan mint tea, made from a recipe an old friend once gave me, handed down from his Moroccan dwelling mother: 8 teaspoons of gunpowder tea, 8 teaspoons of sugar, as much fresh mint as you can cram in the pot (taken from a bush we’ve managed to cultivate against all odds in our kitchen). Delicious.
  • Got up admirably early and headed to Broadway Market (a Saturday morning pattern is forming here) for the usual heady cocktail of crêpes and marvellous coffee from Climpson & Sons.
  • Went to the IMAX to see Under the Sea 3D — yes, it may essentially be a film made for a slightly younger audience, but I’ve not seen anything in 3D at the IMAX before (despite having been there about four times in the last year) so I decided to treat my mother….
  • Popped into Wahaca Covent Garden for some lunch. Maybe it was because of the lovely weather, but it was much less busy than it’s been the last two or three times I’ve walked past, which is a good thing. Totopos, tacos, quesadillas, churros: unbeatable.
  • Picked up a nice summer shirt from H&M, and a whole armful of goodies from Muji. I love Muji.
  • Grabbed a load of tasty food from M&S and headed home to rest our weary legs and watch Andy Murray destroy Viktor Troicki in a rather un-British way (clinical, ruthless, efficient…).
  • Rose early (again) on Sunday and headed down to Victoria Park Village for tea/coffee/juice and cake (Victoria Sponge, of course) at Loafing, and to pick up some chicken from The Ginger Pig.
  • Began the journey to Marylebone (where we escorted our visitor to her train) via Selfridges, where we did a little shopping and took lunch at Obika Mozzarella Bar — the food was so good last time we went that despite the awful service I thought I’d give it another chance, and I’m happy to say they deserved it. Much better service this time, combined with equally delicious food. I can recommend it with a clear conscience.
  • Was cooked a delicious dinner by neon pigeon which we followed by watching episodes 1 and 2 of Psychoville — the BBC’s new comedy thirller/horror from Reese Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton of the League of Gentlemen — on iPlayer. Genius.
