- Had Friday off, and spent most of it doing very little, until the evening….
- Went for a delicious pizza at The Lauriston.
- Checked out for the first time the newly opened Bottle Apostle — seriously impressed, more later.
- Followed up with a little digestif, in the form of a tot of Plantation 8yo Rum: smooth, light, warm, honeyed aftertaste. Beautiful.
- Went for a swim at London Fields Lido: two weeks in a row, now. I think I may have restarted the routine, though I’m no closer to my 60 lengths in 60 minutes.
- Worked up enough of an appetite for a lamb burger, a salty caramel cupcake, and some authentic made in Hackney ice-cream from the cheeriest ice-cream seller in London, all to be found on Broadway market.
- Treated myself to my bargain of the week: Chairman’s Reserve for £13.49 at Waitrose. Great rum.
- Had a surprise visit from an old friend, resulting in a rather drunken evening at OQO (overpriced, a bit dead, wouldn’t rush back) and then for a few more at Barrio North (better, though I preferred it when it was the Warwick).
- Woke up with a much less horrific hangover than I expected, and went for what can only be described as a rather bizarre breakfst at Elbows on Lauriston Road. I’ve never seen so much veg on a plate at breakfast. To make it even more peculiar, Josie Lawrence came and sat next to us half way through.
- Popped to The Dove for an apple juice, The Big Chill bar for a Savannah, and The Albion for a VB.
- Picked up a great bargain at Son of a Stag: some G-Star shorts that will now signal the end of sunny weather.
- Watched Chelsea scrape past Manchester United in the Charity Shield. United looked absolutely terrible, Chelsea not much better. Premiership is there for the taking this year.
- Had some Vietnamese dinner at Namo, nice enough.
- Wound down playing the back nine at Sun City on Tiger Woods ‘09. Relaxing way to finish a very hectic weekend.
